Instructions
Check out the
rules for how the draft
works, including how the players are awarded to teams. Some quick highlights:
- You must pick at least 29 players to fill the roster
minimums:
- 9 starting hitters
- 6 bench players
- 5 starting pitchers
- 3 spot starters
- 6 bullpen slots
- You may pick up to the full 45 - Taxi squad players
and minor leaguers are optional.
- You have to stay under the salary
cap (57 million
Benchwarmer Bucks in 2021).
- For purposes of the draft, position players may only
fill a position authorized as under their "Primary
Position." You may use them once the season starts,
however, in a "Secondary Position."
- PLAYER BIDS
- Teams can bid an extra amount of cash for a player on top of the player's salary
- Teams are limited to a total of 5000 (5 million) in cash for auction bidding
- Bids can only be placed in
increments of 250.
- Your bids count against the total salary you can
spend in Phase 1.
- This is the first tiebreaker for
resolving contested picks. Team that bids the most
cash wins the player award. Only the team that wins
the bid actually has to pay the cash; The amount
deducted will only the minimum amount necessary to
win the bid. For example, if one team bids 3000 and
one team bids 500, then 750 is the minimum amount
required to win the bid, so 750 will be deducted.
- PLAYER RANKING
- You'll notice that the final tiebreaker
if the same player is picked by multiple teams is "Random
Draw"
- Before a random draw occurs, BWB
will check the "Rank" you've given a player
- "1" = the highest rank; "40" is the
lowest rank; An unranked player is shown as "0"
- Ranking players is optional
- If you give 2 players the same rank,
both will automatically be changed to the lowest of your
ranked players, with the higher salary getting the higher
rank.
- In this tiebreaker, the team that gives
the player the highest rank gets him. If multiple
teams give the same rank, they advance to the random draw.
- Typically, about the first 8-14 players
are placed via random draw. Because we start with
the players picked most often, you'll want to make sure
you give ranks to the players you think other teams will
pick. It might be a waste of your effort to rank
your entire draft list -- but it doesn't hurt anything.
Ranking someone #40 will beat out a team who hasn't ranked
the same player.
- Note: if you are participating in a
LIVE draft and don't show up for the draft, the league
will use your ranks to determine the order of drafting
players for you.
- You pay for the players immediately at
their listed salary -
with limitations, you get salary rebates of 80% if you cut them before Opening Day
(you can start cuts once the full Phase 1-Phase 2 draft
process is done).
- Estimate that you'll get 5-25 players in Phase 1 - it
depends on how many players you pick that other teams also
choose.
- New leagues start with an extra 15 million Benchwarmer
Bucks beyond the season's salary cap (That's an increase
of 5000 in 2022)
- You may take as much cash as you have left into the
season with you.
- All teams get an extra 2 million bucks on Opening Day.
- Note: Salaries are always posted
in thousands. So 48 million = 48000. A salary
of 6000 is 6 million. A salary of 250 is 250
thousand. Etc., etc.
