Second-Place Showdown
In honor of the 43rd President of the United States (heh, heh, heh),
The Al Gore Cup is a forum for teams that finished second and most
likely feel that they're more deserving than all of the other
first-place teams to be in the championship bracket.
Teams are seeded 1-4 based on regular season records and play a
best-of-seven semifinal round followed by another seven game series to
crown the winner.
The winner receives a bonus of 1 million Benchwarmer Bucks.
The runner-up gets 500,000.
The 2003 Entrants (in order of seeding):
- Las Vegas (85-65) - best record in their history - tied
with Brewster but advanced here due to tiebreakers.
- Nordeast (84-66) - The 2002 BWB Champs. This is the
first time they have not finished first.
- San Francisco (78-73) - BWB Champs of 2001. After 2
first-place seasons, they were defeated in a one-game playoff by
Wheatland to decide the division title.
- Springfield (74-76) - BWB Champs in 2000. This is
the first sub-.500 record in the Isotopes history.
Semifinals - Las Vegas wins in 5 games, San Francisco wins in 6.
Finals - San Francisco vs. Las Vegas. San Francisco took the
season series 5-1.
2003 Gore Cup Winner - Las Vegas in 7 games.
