Necessary Links

The Chat page will automatically open in a new window/tab - as you cannot back out of that page and come back to it without logging in again.  For the other links, it's up to you how you open them, but BWB's suggestion is that you open them up in new windows or tabs and switch between them (to do that, right-click on the link and choose the appropriate option).

  • BWB Draft Chat Page - Login with your team city name
  • Draft Log - all the picks in order
  • Draft Roster - showing your currently drafted players - total salary - remaining cash.  You can switch to other teams as well
  • Player List - showing available players or drafted players or both
  • Your draft list - if you put together a list, here it is.  This will NOT update based on players selected.

If you're having trouble with the chat connection - send an e-mail to jon.swanson@benchwarmerbaseball.net - we can have you submit via e-mail if necessary (just keep refreshing your screens to see when it's your turn).

Draft Order

Snaking draft order - Below is the order for the odd rounds.  The order is reversed for the even rounds.

Draft Rules

  • We draft only the first 10 rounds.  After the live draft is complete, the league will go into Phase Two drafting, which is done the same as with leagues which begin with list drafts.  The starting draft order for Phase Two is based on team cash remaining.
  • The draft order for the Live Draft is a snaking draft order - see the list above for the draft order for odd rounds.  The order is reversed in even rounds.
  • Player choices will be made using the BWB chat interface.
  • In this new setup, there is no time limit, but try to pick players within about 60 seconds.
  • We will be mindful of possible Internet interruptions - there will be no set time limit, but somewhere in the 3-5 minute range, we will move on to pick automatically for a team.
  • If a team is not present, this is how BWB will pick players for the team:
    • For any random selection, BWB will not take a player it knows to be injured (with danger of missing most/all of the season) or any player marked in the BWB list as an MLB Free Agent.
    • If the team has ranked draft choices
      • BWB will select the highest-ranked player still available.
      • If the player's salary is over 3 million (3000), BWB will pick him only if there is no existing player on the team at the primary position (filling up to 3 OF spots, 3 SP spots, 2 RP slots).
      • Once the team's ranked choices are gone, If the team has extra players on their draft list but has not ranked them, BWB will pick a random player from the team's unranked draft list - with the same stipulation for players making over 3 million.
    • If the team has not ranked draft choices, or has run out of ranked choices or allowable picks from the ranked list
      • BWB will randomly pick a player for the team with these guidelines by the current draft round:
        • Round 1: The available player (any position) with the highest BWB salary
        • Round 2: The available player (any position) with the highest BWB salary
        • Round 3: A random selection from one of the highly sought after new players in 2009 (based on counts in the Redistribution Draft)
        • Round 4: If the team does not have a starting pitcher, take the highest-salaried available SP (else take highest RP)
        • Round 5: The available player (any position not yet filled) with the highest BWB salary
        • Round 6: The available player (any position not yet filled) with the highest BWB salary less than 3000
        • Round 7: In order of position in baseball scoring (2 = catcher, 3 = 1B, etc.), take the batter for a missing position with the highest BWB salary.
        • Round 8: In descending order of position in baseball scoring (7 = OF, 6 = SS, etc.), take the batter for a missing position with the highest BWB salary.
        • Round 9: If the team does not have a closer, take the highest-salaried available closer (else take highest SP with salary less than 3000)
        • Round 10: Take a random 1st round draft pick from a random year between 2004-2008 with either current MLB status or high-prospect status.
