Posted 10/19/2026 for the 2026 playoffs
We're widening the possible range of games available for
a starting pitcher from within 7 games of the hitters' game
to 10. There's an upcoming change to how random numbers are
selected for playoffs and I'm trying to eliminate or reduce
the effort needed for the change later in the rule where I
manually inspect P1 and P2 games over the two weeks and
change them if there are 3 or 4 of them too close. This will
also expand the number of games considered for the starting
pitcher for game numbers on the low end of the range.
Rule was:
For playoff games, we will use the starting pitching
stats from the MLB game NEAREST to the randomly selected MLB
game used for hitters. This is not unlimited, however. The
game must be within 7 games of the hitters’ game or the
pitcher will have no starts available for the game (and fall
within the range of used games – though for starting
pitchers we will use games 76-162).
Rule changed to:
For playoff games, we will use the starting pitching
stats from the MLB game NEAREST to the randomly selected MLB
game used for hitters. This is not unlimited, however. The
game must be within 10 games of the hitters’ game or the
pitcher will have no starts available for the game (and fall
within the range of used games – though for starting
pitchers we will use games
71-162).

season
The original rule stated "If there is a tie for any of
these positions, it will be broken with the same criteria as
free agent signings." So if a couple teams tied for 1st
place, one team got nothing and another got the 2nd place
cash and it was based on that week's transaction order.
The change is now that when teams are tied, they each
receive the same cash award.

Some of the final criteria for determining transaction
order:
- Team with the worse record in the last 10 games.
- Team with the lowest Runs Scored per Game (RPG) as
displayed on the league standings page (to one decimal
place).
- Team with the highest Runs Allowed per Game (RAPG)
as displayed on the league standings page (to one decimal
place).
This is modified slightly beginning in 2026:
- Team with the lowest Runs Scored per Game (RPG) as
displayed on the league standings page (to one decimal
place).
- Team with the highest Runs Allowed per Game (RAPG)
as displayed on the league standings page (to one decimal
place).
- Team with the worse record in the last 10 games.
We usually only get down this far in the first 2-3 weeks
of the season. At that point, record in the last 10 games is
very often the same. And if we get this far, runs scored and
runs allowed are a better indicator for team strength. (The
original idea was to put the colder team first).
